A great deal of material is available to educate us on how to recognize when child abuse may be present in a child's life. In most cases, there is no single indicator which reveals that child abuse is occurring. As a result, we should each strive to be aware of the general well-being of the children with whom we have contact. If you suspect a child is being harmed, you can contact one of several community agencies who can provide assistance.
In addition, you can educate yourself about typical signs and behaviors associated with children who have been subjected to abuse, and ways to better protect all children. A few resources are:
Utah Code Ann. § 62A-4a-403 states:
. . . when any person . . . has reason to believe that a child has been subjected to incest, molestation, sexual abuse, physical abuse, or neglect, he shall immediately notify the nearest peace officer, law enforcement agency, or office of the Division of Child and Family Services.
